Line Grouping is a method to group material, labor and sublet line items together to report sales for them in an alternative way to service categories. It does not replace reporting sales by service category, it works in conjunction with it allow you to group sales in different ways for different purposes. If you operate a franchise, it is an excellent way to group sales in accordance with how you pay franchise fees. For a non-franchise operation and example would be if you wanted to see sales for diagnostic charges but the inspections and services that charge for diagnostics are scattered throughout several service categories, you could create a line group for diagnostics and then put any line items that charge for diagnostics in the diagnostic line group. This way you could easily get a report on sales for diagnostic sales.
